I made a hoodie! I’m pretty proud of finally finishing this project, because it’s been brewing in my brain for several months now. I’m a super Transformers geek, and really love the original cartoon. It’s a fairly common fan-tangent to draw your favorite Transformer as a human or dress up as they would, ect. I came up with an idea for a Bumblebee costume and finally got around to making the hardest part – the hoodie.
I had two goals for the design:
1) Make the hoodie as representative of the character as possible. No point in making this if it wasn’t immediately recognizable at Bumblebee, right?
2) Make the design as street-wearable as possible. I didn’t want this to look like a costume. If I wore this outside of a convention, I didn’t want people to think twice about me.
I modeled the pattern after my favorite hoodie. It’s super comfy. Then I fit all the black striping in, found knitted fabric for the cuffs and bottom banding and added a zipper. Simple! I think without my original sewing boot camp, even though I never finished all my SewMG projects, this would have taken a lot longer. I even have enough fabric left over for a bumblebee pillow!
To complete the costume, I need shoes, a Autobot logo for my zipper and little yellow horns to put in my hair. I hope to have some completed cosplay photos after our next convention.
